Nelly’s Campaign

When Nelly Nkosi was asked why she started wearing her traditional headdress, she replied, “Now that I do not have to use my head to carry buckets of water, I can use it to wear my headdress!”

Hippo Water Rollers

To date, the Roll a Hippo Foundation has distributed over 2,000 hippo rollers to women and families in South Africa, saving them enormous time and effort with daily water collection.

1000 Survival Garden Kits Project

Survival Garden Kits provide women and families in need with essential gardening tools to grow their homestead gardens and increase their food production.

Water and Food Security Training Program

The Government of Canada funded program provided participants with the tools and knowledge to build their own homestead gardens.

I came into this project with the hope that we will be able to help people to improve their lives and set the beneficiaries on a trajectory to transformation. Little did I know that the beneficiaries would set me on my own path to a deeper understanding of our communities in KwaZulu Natal, their real struggles with basic needs: food, health, education and access to water…This project was like the rekindling of a flame within each community, reigniting hope, love for neighbour, joy and resilience.
